Ali Fraser hit 24 points as Scotland pulled off an 83-59 rout of England on Saturday night in a friendly at Meadowbank.

Iain Maclean’s side surged into an early 13-0 lead and were barely troubled by their visitors as they built a 50-24 advantage by half-time.

And although London Lions guard Orlan Jackman scored 12 of his game-high 27 points in the third period, the Scots moved as much as 31 clear early in the fourth.

“It was a really pleasing performance,” said Maclean. “It helped we got off to a good start. Ali was great out there. He gives people problems because he doesn’t do anything flashy, he gets rebounds and he helps the guys around him.”

The sides meet again on Sunday with the English looking for better.

“We knew we wouldn’t come together straight away but we didn’t expect that,” said Barry Lamble. “But we’re glad to have a second shot.” Jonny Bunyan added 20.

Earlier, Scotland Futures Women lost 68-64 to Austria with the visitors pulling out a 16-0 run in the fourth quarter to snatch victory, despite a game-high 22 points from Sarah Thomson.
