The 7th annual Haris Memorial Tournament takes place in Manchester this week – once again paying tribute to former Magic player Haris Charalambous.
The 21-year-old, who was one of the top players to come out of the Magic’s youth programme, died suddenly while training with his NCAA Division 1 Toledo University team in October 2006. Since then, the Magic have honored him each year with this special competition.
“The Magic have never been able to win this prestigious tournament,” said club chief, Joe Forber. “We have been runners-up on 4 occasions out of the 6 years which the Tournament has been run. Although we will be trying again to lift the trophy at the end of the 2012 Tournament, it will be a very difficult ask.
“It is probably the strongest line-up of teams we have ever had, including BC Kos Sarajevo Bosnia, CB Cornella Spain, Akademie Weser Germany, Switzerland Under 18 Select, Belfast Stars and England Under 17.”
It all takes place at the Amaechi Basketball Centre, Manchester, between December 17th and 29th. Visit www.amaechibasketballcentre.com for more details.
Entry costs £3 (Thurs), £4 (Fri), £5 (Sat) or £8 for all three days if bought in advance.
