LIONS READY FOR CAPITAL BOW
London Lions coach Vince Macaulay expects his team to make an instant impression when they make their capital debut at Crystal Palace on Sunday against Newcastle Eagles.
The South London venue has staged the National Cup final on ten occasions along with several England games, international tournaments and games involving top American colleges. Lions will become the third BBL team to play there before their move to the Olympic Park in 2013, having previously been home to the now-defunct Crystal Palace and London Towers clubs.
“Anyone who knows me will know that I wouldn’t be on the floor if I didn’t think we could compete,” said Macaulay as he prepares for his fourth stint as Lions’ coach.
“I expect us to compete for every title we play in and in every game, we want to win every game we play and we will do everything we can to do so.”
Macaulay admits that it’s a been tough few weeks for his club as they moved from Milton Keynes, but he’s raring to go as his side prepare to travel to Manchester Giants on Friday before hosting the Eagles on Sunday.
“I’m not sure we’ve had a pre-season. Building a club in five weeks is as tough a challenge as there is. However I am delighted with the players we have been able to recruit. We have played well in the two pre-season games we’ve had but none of them will be as tough as what we will face in the BBL.
“At the moment I am content with my team, there is always the possibility of adding to the squad but these players have bought in to what we are going to build here in the capital and they will be given the chance to start our exciting journey.”
