Jules Christian (1996 born) proved himself to be amongst the cream of the crop yesterday, after being selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic International Game, in Charlotte, USA. His selection comes after a stand-out three days at the Jordan Brand Classic International Tour training camp in East London.
Christian, along with 9 other players from the 38-man camp have been selected to be flown to the US, to join six players from other regions of the world to compete in the Jordan Brand Classic International showcase; a warm-up game to the famous Jordan Brand Classic which features the top high school basketball talent in the US.
The 6’0″ guard becomes the first British player to be selected to play in the American game since the current format has been in place (Kenroy Wood, made the game in 2007 when it was just a 1 day camp).
“The last three days have been really tough,” Jules explained to Hoopsfix. “But it’s been kinda fun too. It’s been a great experience to play with the best kids in Europe.”
The UK had three representatives at the camp in London; Christian, Theo Oghide and Liam Carpenter (all pictured, right), two of which (Christian & Oghide) made the all-star game on Sunday which featured the top 20 players from the camp. Coaches then selected their 10 MVPs from the game to compete in the Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina.
World renowned basketball skills coach Ganon Baker who was been involved with the camp for the last few years was impressed with the talent on display:
“The camp has been outstanding. Anytime you have the Jumpman (logo) involved, it’s nothing but excellence. We’ve got some of the best, 15, 16 year old players in the world. These guys have a lot to learn; they’re not there yet, but obviously they’re very, very, talented and I think we’ve been giving them a taste of what it means to be successful.”
Video coming soon.
Shout out to all three UK players who repped for the three days, especially Jules!
