GB guard Andrew Lawrence was the top British performer in college basketball this week, despite his College of Charleston team losing two games to drop to 4-4 in the Southern Conference.
Lawrence scored 18 points – including 8-8 at the line – with five assists and four rebounds against Davidson. Against Georgia Southern he had 12 points and five assists. The junior from London is averaging 12.5 points and 5.1 assists per game, and is joint-third in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio.
Loyola Marymount, meanwhile, had two wins to improve to 5-2 in their conference. Ashley Hamilton put up solid numbers, with nine points and seven rebounds against BYU and five points, seven rebounds and three assists against Santa Clara.
Alasdair Fraser had one of his quieter weeks of the season, with his best game coming against Hartford, where he had 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He had four points and seven boards and eight points and four boards in Maine’s other two games this wek.
Ben Mockford struggled with his shot this week, going 1-9 from the field for seven points in St Francis’ first game, and 2-6 for eight points in their second.
Ovie Soko missed UAB’s game against Rice through injury, but recovered in time to grab 11 rebounds and score four points against UCF.
Will Neighbour was surprisingly relegated to the bench this week, from where he had two points and five rebounds against Louisiana-Lafayette and five points and three rebounds against Western Kentucky. Neighbour has been nursing a shoulder injury, so he may be having his minutes limited until it heals fully.
Shane Walker hasn’t been able to match his early-season numbers in conference play. The 6-10 forward had four points and seven rebounds against Siena, then went scoreless with four rebounds against St Peter’s. Walker fouled out after playing only 14 minutes in the latter game.
Alex Marcotullio sat out Northwestern’s first game of the week with a concussion, but returned to post a very solid line of 11 points, four assists and four rebounds, in one of his better games this season.
Ex-Manchester Magic big men Aaron Geramipoor and Phil Wait continue to make solid contributions for their teams. Wait had one of his better games of the season in Monmouth’s loss to Robert Morris as he scored 12 points, while Geramipoor had four points and two rebounds in 10 minutes as Seton Hall went down to Villanova.
