DENG INJURY A WORRY FOR GB

Great Britain star Luol Deng has suffered a wrist injury that could raise concerns about his availability for the Olympic Games.

The Chicago Bulls forward is set to miss at least two weeks after sustaining ligament damage while in action in the NBA last Saturday against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Despite advice that he needs surgery, the 26-year-old has opted not to go under the knife and will undergo rehab treatment with the team’s medical staff in the hopes of boosting the Bulls championship hopes this season.

However, with minimal time between the end of the NBA season and the start of GB’s pre-Olympic training camp, the South Sudan-born Londoner could face a dilemma come June.

“I’m very confident that I’ll be fine,” he said. “And I feel like without the surgery I’ll be fine.

“I really feel like we have a very good chance of doing something special. But it is what is. It’s just: ‘What do we do from here.’

“I just know what I can do with it and what I can’t do. And I really think I’m going to be very effective out there.”

Boateng: treatment sought

Meanwhile Deng’s close friend Eric Boateng is to meet with Great Britain’s medical staff in a bid to save his own Olympic dreams.

The centre has denied previous reports of a foot problem, revealing to MVP that he sustained a calf injury while in action for Greek side Peristeri.

The issue will still see him miss the remainder of the season but he is hoping that his period on the sidelines will end before the international campaign.

“I have been told 3 to 4 months,” he said. “But I have got to get a second opinion from the Team GB doctor .”
