LeBron James in London

LeBron James in London
There are a number of different types of post that drive a lot of traffic to Hoopsfix; national team news always does well, sneaker posts are killer and junior league stuff garners a ton of interest, however, there is no doubt that the biggest driver of traffic are the videos.

The Hoopsfix Youtube channel averages approximately 100,000 views a month (make sure you subscribe if you haven’t already!), with footage ranging from streetball, to Team GB, to NBA player appearances in London. Over the course of 2011, the Hoopsfix channel has racked up over 1.3 million views and as 2012 fast approaches, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at what our biggest releases of the year were…so without further ado, check out The 10 Most Viewed Hoopsfix Video Releases of 2011!

*Note: This is the top 10 viewed Hoopsfix videos released in 2011.

10) Matthew Don Poster

In at number ten is this nasty baseline poster from Canarias Basketball Academy’s/England Under 18 fringe player Matthew Don. With 9,033 views, it’s in no small part due to being featured as ESPN Page 2’s Web Video of the Day.

9) Devon Van Oostrum GB Summer Mixtape

In his first of three appearances in this top ten, DVO comes in at number 9 with 10,158 views on his Great Britain Summer 2011 mixtape. Having only been released two months ago, and featuring some jaw dropping footage, expect this mixtape’s viewing figures to keep on rising throughout 2012.

8) DVO Drops 25 in 25 Minutes

With 10,500 views, Devon van Oostrum’s ultra efficient 25 points in 25 minutes against Holland with the GB U20s takes the number 8 spot. The bullet pass at the end is one of the assists of the year!

7) Luke Nelson at Junior Final Fours 2011

Despite only being at number 7, this Luke Nelson video may be one of the videos I’m most proud of in 2011. To rack up 10,788 views, as a player still in the UK (and at the time a complete unknown by overseas media outlets), really shows the power of the internet. Nelson is a baller, doing his thing with Reading in D1 this season, I hope we’ll hear a lot more from him in the future.

6) Ryan Richards is BACK

Having not suited up since being made an NBA draft draft pick by the San Antonio Spurs in 2010, Ryan Richards’ return to the court was hugely anticipated and it didn’t take long for him to get into his rhythm. In his second game back with the Great Britain U20s after rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Richards went for 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks in just 15 minutes including one NASTY crossover and dunk. The video was greatly received, being featured on a number of San Antonio based websites, and currently sitting at number 6 with 15,719 views.

5) Jordan Brand Classic International Tour

Forty of the top prospects in Europe descended on Guildford earlier this year for the annual Jordan Brand Classic International Tour. I went for something a little different than just a regular highlight reel, with a mini feature (with very poor sound quality on the voiceover!) telling the story. The results: 28,972 views, and featured on a number of big sites across Europe; good for number 5 in this countdown.

4) Devon van Oostrum Posterizes Danish Big

The buzz around this video was crazy and it was real satisfying to see my Twitter and Facebook feeds full of people getting hyped about it! DVO wins the crown for best dunk of 2011 with this huge one hander he planted on Denmark’s big man in the GB U20s’ warm-up games, reeling in 36,676 views.

3) Jordan Brand Classic Extended Highlights

I almost didn’t bother doing this extended highlights video of the Jordan Brand Classic All Star game, but after a number of requests from different European outlets, I’m glad I did. With 69,442 views on the year, it did far better than I thought it would and was featured all over the place!

2)LeBron Says He’d Take Himself in 1 on 1 vs Kobe

On hearing LeBron was coming to London, there was only one question I wanted to ask him. After the way Kobe had responded to who would win a 1 on 1 between him and LBJ a year ago, I was intrigued to see LeBron’s response, but was also well aware that there was a chance I could end up p*ssing off the best basketball player on the planet. I figured I would ask, and hope for the best…I got an answer, but didn’t succeed without clearly irritating Mr James himself. My bad, but on the plus side the video is one of only two this year to break 100,000 views, having done 100,439.

1) LeBron Takes Kid 1 on 1 and Dunks on Him

This video was a by product of Lebron’s appearance in London, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting much at all, thinking it would be “the question” that would get all the exposure. I got it wrong, and LeBron dunking on a kid half his size made ESPN, making it the second time Hoopsfix has been on international television! King James takes the number one spot with 167, 655 views on the year (and 200k+ on WorldStarHipHop as well!).

So now you’ve got the top Hoopsfix videos of 2011 based on viewing numbers, what is your favourite video we’ve released on the year?
