England U16s Slay Slovenia, Semi Finals Up Next

With their semi finals place already secured, the result mattered little but England Under-16s took care of business anyway, beating Slovenia 63-58, and moving to 6-0 at the 2011 Division B European Championships in Macedonia.

Down 16-10 after one quarter, England responded with ruthless intensity as they dominated the second period, outscoring Slovenia 23-7, to give themselves a lead they would not give up the rest of the game.

Kingsley Okoroh had a monster game on the boards, finishing with 18, along with 8 points, 3 assists and 4 blocks. Dwayne Orija and Mo Soluade led the scoring with 11 points each, whilst Luke Nelson added 10 points and 6 assists.

Full box score, play by play and statistics available here.

England will now await the results of the other group to find out who they face in the semi-finals.

Notes

  • England starters: Luke Nelson, Sam Round, Mo Soluade, Tamas Okros, Kingsley Okoroh
  • Despite having his lowest scoring output of the campaign so far (7), Tyrell Isaacs had two big buckets down the stretch to dampen the Slovenians’ rally.
  • Kingsley Okoroh is now averaging 11.1 rebounds per outing through 6 games, along with 4.3 blocks and 7.1 points.
  • Mo Soluade’s all around stats are equally as nice; 10.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.8 steals and 1.1 blocks, but the thing that stands out most about this team is the depth.
