Teddy Okereafor Signs to VCU

England Under 18 Teddy Okereafor, a 6’4″ guard out of east London has signed a letter of intent to attend Virginia Commonwealth University for next season.

Head Coach Shaka Smart is extremely pleased with the signing of Okereafor, who has just completed a season at Christchurch School, Virginia;

“The addition of Teddy is huge news to our program and vital to our future. His biggest asset is making his teammates better, which is a trait that all winning players share.”

“Teddy brings a tremendous basketball IQ to the game and plays with a terrific understanding of pace.”

Speaking to Hoopsfix about why he chose VCU, Teddy said:

“I chose VCU because of how good I think I can do there and how good the team can become. They have a great coaching team and (Head Coach) Shaka Smarts knows what he’s talking about. All three coaches played the point guard position, so I feel I can learn a lot from them. The team uses a lot of ball screens which fits perfectly with my style of play.

I’m just really looking forward to the whole college experience.”

Okereafor was named this year’s VISAA Prep League Player of the Year, and First-Team All-State after pouring in 13.1 points per game and dishing out 7.2 assists per game for the Seahorses. He led his school to a 23-6 overall mark and perfect 14-0 in the Virginia Prep League.

VCU have just completed their best season in school history, going 28-12 whilst making the Final Four. Okereafor also received interest from Clemson and Virginia out of the ACC, as well as Georgetown out of the Big East.
