Okereafor Named VISAA Prep League POY

Teddy Okereafor BasketballTeddy Okereafor (1992 born, Class of 2012), currently playing at Christchurch School, Virginia, has been named the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Player of the Year after leading his team to an undefeated season in the prep league.

Okereafor, a 6’2″ guard, led his team to a 16-0 record in the conference (22-5 overall), whilst averaging 13 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals per game.

Before heading to the states, Teddy was developed at East London before spending a year at Barking Abbey Baskeball Academy and winning an U18 National Championship with the Westminster Warriors, being widely considered one of the best guards of his age group still left in the country.

Talking to Hoopsfix on what the award means to him, the former England U18 player said:

“It’s great. I mean, first year here and to win it just shows hard work pays off. I’ve always wanted to play in the states and so now I’ve got the opportunity I have to make the most of it. The reward is just a small token of how far I’ve come.”

Okereafor and Christchurch will begin their quest for a state championship next Wednesday, when the playoffs begin after having already received a by through the first round for finishing top 4 in the state.

Teddy remains uncommitted for college, still having one more year at Christchurch after being reclassified as class of 2012 player, but has a number of schools interested such as Virginia, Davidson, Elon, Virginia Commonwealth and Georgetown.
