Vince Van Nes Commits to Fairfield

Vince Van Nes (1992 born), the 6’11” 235lb big man originally developed through the Southampton Trailblazers, has verbally committed to NCAA Division 1 school Fairfield beginning the 2011/2012 season.

Van Nes, who is currently at the prestigious Northfield Mt. Hermon school, said Fairfield Head Coach Ed Cooley’s proven history in developing big men factored into his decision. Talking to Hoopsfix Van Nes said:

“The coaching staff, the school environment and the Fairfield basketball programme are really on the rise. I feel that it is a great fit for me as a player and a person. Playing under Ed Cooley will no doubt be terrific for my development. Fairfield definitely worked the hardest in recruiting me and showed the most interest.”

Vince also saw interest from Clemson, Virginia, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Washington State, Florida International and Oregon State amongst others, before a season ending foot injury just two games into this season derailed his senior year. Despite missing the entire season after foot surgery on January 7th, Van Nes still saw strong recruitment interest from a variety of mid-major coaches.

New England Hoop News feels Van Nes’ will be a good fit at Fairfield:

“The European big man is extremely skilled and is best when playing a face up role where he can knock down open jumpers and see the floor for cutters and hi-low action.  He finishes well around the rim, especially in the open court.   And, he actually moves up and down the floor very well for someone his size and should be able to use that to his advantage at Fairfield.”

As for Van Nes, he feels he can bring a lot to the Fairfield programme:

“I think in the long run my versatility to be able to step out, play inside, my passing and running the floor will help Fairfield greatly in the next few years.”

Hoopsfix wants to wish Vince all the best with his career at Fairfield, we’ll be following!
