GB U20 Men’s & Women’s Team Staff Announced

GB basketball yesterday announced the the GB Standard Life under-20 men’s and women’s team staff, ahead of this summer’s European Youth Championships.

Tim Lewis has been reappointed as the GB U20 men’s coach after last summer’s 6-2 Division B European Championship campaign. He will be joined in Sarajevo by GB senior men’s assistant coach, Paul Mokeski, who has been appointed as the new assistant coach to the team. Mokeski helped the GB Standard Life senior men reach EuroBasket 2011 in last summer’s qualifiers.

Also returning for the under-20 men from last year is team manager, Mark Lloyd. A new PA coach for the team is yet to be appointed but they too will join the team for the summer.

Warwick Cann, Head of Performance at British Basketball, is excited about the addition of Paul Mokeski:

“We must remember that the GB under-20 team is also about identifying players who can play for GB in the future as a senior player and potentially in 2016. I think Paul Mokeski’s appointment and his vast experience at all levels, including NBA, will greatly aide our dual goals of player development, as well as team success as we look towards 2016.”

There is little change to the team staff of the GB U20 women, as coaches, Damian Jennings and Matt Johnson, along with manager, Marlies Keifer, and performance coach, Dave Bailey, all return this year to battle it out in Division A in Serbia from the 7th-17th July.

Cann added:

“I am delighted that the successful coaching team from last year’s achievement will be back for this foray into Division A basketball. I am sure they will use last year’s experience well to prepare this year’s squad for what will be a daunting but exciting challenge for GB.”

This summer the GB under-20 women have been drawn in Group D of Division A and will face Slovak Republic, Latvia and Spain. The under-20 men were drawn in Group C of Division B and look to meet Czech Republic, Norway, Portugal, Finland and Luxemburg on the court in Sarajevo this summer.

The initial squads will be announced in February and will commence preparation either the last weekend in May or first weekend in June.
