CHANGE NEEDED, SAYS GB STAR DAN

Great Britain forward Dan Clark believes FIBAâ€™s decision to make Great Britain sweat on a place at the 2012 Olympic Games can benefit the sport.

The Estudiantes star is among many figures nervously awaiting next monthâ€™s decision on the issue which will see the governing bodyâ€™s Central Board take a vote in Lyon on March 12-13.

Clark, still just 22, did his part to advance Britainâ€™s competitive cause by helping the menâ€™s team to reach the 2011 Eurobasket finals via last yearâ€™s qualifiers.

And he hopes the process can act as a catalyst for change.

“I think it’s good they have put pressure on us because if they let us in for free, we wouldn’t change anything in the country,â€ he told Fiba.com.

â€œWe need to make the domestic league better and make everything better, in general, not just the national team, not just putting everything into that one team. They need to put money into everything to make everything better.â€

The Londoner says Chris Finchâ€™s men will go to Lithuania this coming summer with loftier goals than 2009 when they exited in the first round.

â€œOur goal is to make it to the next round this year,â€ he added.
