Looking Spike’d out – and like he could trip a referee – Jay-Z (accompanied by Beyonce) watched his New Jersey Nets get their NBA season off to a positve start last night, with a win over the Detroit Pistons.
Star guard (and Stuart Tanner’s best mate) Devin Harris went for 22 points and nine assists, whilst bohemian bigman Brook Lopez added 25 points and nine rebounds. Team GB’s Ben Gordon managed just 12 points as his Pistons were beaten 101-98.
The Nets – who travel to London to take on the Toronto Raptors at The O2 in March – host the Sacramento Kings on Friday, before Miami’s Big 3 roll into town on Sunday.
Speaking of Miami, they got their first win of the season last night. Behind 30 points from Dwyane Wade they defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 97-87. James scored 16 points and Bosh had 15.
The team who dealt the Heat their opening night loss, Boston, moved to 1-1 as they suffered a surprise loss to LeBron’s former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
J. J. Hickson scored 21 points and Daniel Gibson added 16 – all in the second half – to overhaul an 11-point deficit in the third quarter and help pull of the shock win. For the Celtics, Rajon Rondo top-scored with 18 points, while Kevin Garnett recorded 15 rebounds for Boston.
