Head Coach Paul James is pleased with the summer which saw the return of an England Senior Men’s side that went 4-11 across all their games.

“I thought it went really well, especially as it was the first time of trying to put together such a programme and because it had to be done very quickly.”

“We had some really good quality games against teams from the top level of the game, and I don’t think we could have asked for more than to face the Lithuanian squad as well as the Ivory Coast and Tunisia – that was fantastic competition for us, I learned a lot and I think the boys who played did as well.”

England had not had a Senior Men’s team since 2004, when they were bronze medal winners at the Commonwealth games. Coach James was particularly impressed with a few guys:

“Of the guys who were around all of the summer, Andy Thomson and James Jones showed what class acts they were when they were with us. Dave Watts showed that he can definitely play at a higher level and Taner Adu did a great job. It was a shame that we didn’t see a bit more of Stefan Gill and Anthony Rowe, but overall the players came in and did a good job for us and contributed.”

“They’ve learned about the level of competition and the physical side of it and I’ve told them what they have to do improve their games. I’ve told them that they need to put pressure on their coaches to make them into better players when they go back to their clubs. There’s a lot of players who are capable of becoming much better and consistent players if they challenge themselves.”
