Britball is reporting that Luol Deng is set to miss all of Team GB’s warm up games ahead of their Eurobasket qualifying campaign in August due to once again having problems with insurance.
British Basketball’s performance director Chris Spice said:
“He’ll be considered high-risk until his contract (with the Chicago Bulls) runs out in four years time. So although we’re still working through the details, it’s probably less than 50/50 that he’ll be able to play in any of the warm-up games. It’s the worst thing for him and the worst thing for us because he has to be ready to play.”
Team GB tip off their campaign tonight against Canada, playing a friendly down in Cobham, Surrey. Pops Mensah-Bonsu will not be suiting up either.
Luol Deng not being available is potentially another huge blow to the programme that has been hit by a number of high profile losses. Let’s just pray that it is sorted in time for the actual games in August!
