GB U20 Women Crowed European Champions
The GB U20 Women will be playing in Division A next season
The GB U20 Women were crowned Division B European Champions yesterday after beating the Slovak Republic 47-46 in the Division B European Championship final.
A great first half of basketball saw GB lead 25-14 at the break. The Slovak Republic responded with a big third quarter run, cutting GB’s lead down to just five points going into the fourth, 41-36.
A tight fourth quarter set up a nail biting finish to the game. Following a GB turnover, the Slovak Republic had the ball coming out of a time out. GB up one. 10 seconds to go. Slovak’s Veronika Cernáková managed to get to basket but missed the lay up and Mary Durojaye grabbed the rebound to seal the championship for Great Britain.
A great win for GB with a true team performance, with all players seeing more than 6 minutes of playing time. Jennings’ side out rebounded their opponents 48-35. Mairi Buchan led the team with 13 points and eight rebounds, whilst Mary Durojaye added 12 points and six boards.
