GB U20’s Cut to 16


Ovie Soko is still in after his two 20+ point games at the weekend

As you know the GB U20’s camp opened up on Friday in Leigh just outside of Manchester. It wasn’t long before cuts were made/people pulled out due other commitments and the team is now down to 16 (from an initial training squad of 23). The 16 left standing at this point are;

GB Standard Life U20 men’s squad:

Nigel Van Oustrum – Franklin Pierce University
Alex Marcotullio – Northwestern University
Jack Stannard – Bristol Flyers
Jack Thompson– Milton Keynes Lions
Myles Hesson – Birmingham A’s
Robert Gilchrist – Worcester Academy
Ryan Martin – Westminster Warriors
Jamell Anderson– Essex Pirates
Raheem May Thompson – Quinnipiac University
Will Neighbor – Daytona Junior College
Ovie Soko – UAB
Will Hall– Deerfield Academy
Josh Rolls Tyson– Birmingham University
Ali McKay – Essex Pirates

Head Coach Tim Lewis talking on the camp, said:

“The standard of players is higher than it was last year, maybe a little bit smaller, therefore we are looking at different ways of playing and what suits us. If the team buys into what we are doing it will be a really exciting summer ahead of us. We have four weeks and five test-games scheduled to get ourselves ahead of the game and if we can do that we put ourselves in a decent position for the EuroBasket Championships. Exciting stuff! “

The camp moved down to Southend yesterday, and have a game scheduled this weekend against the UK Elite 10 squad.

GB Standard Life U20 men’s competitive schedule:
Division B Championships, Gussing, Oberwart, Austria
14.07 v Denmark
16.07 v Austria
18.07 v Belgium

In addition to the group games the the GB Standard Life U20 Men will play a series of playoff game to determine the final position, these will take place from the 19 – 24 July
