In what was the worst game of basketball I have seen in a long time, the England Senior Men’s took care of Scotland 67-57 to win game 1 of their two game series over this weekend at the University of Worcester
The Scottish team, playing with a lot more urgency and hustle than England, pulled the game within 1 with 18 seconds remaining in the the third quarter and it appeared the upset was on. It wasn’t until three straight three’s in the fourth quarter from Everton Tigers guard James Jones that England pulled away.
Steven Leven and Ike Attah led all scorers for Scotland with 14 each, whilst Attah also added 11 rebounds. James Jones led all England scorers with 12 points, whilst Andy Thompson had 11 and 7 rbs. Ashley Hamilton flirted with a double double with 9 points and 8 rebounds.
England Basketball did FIBA live stats for the game. Game 2, which you can again follow on FIBA Live Stats here, is today at 2pm.
-Like I said above, this game was one of the worst I’ve seen for a long time. Scrappy as hell; you would never guess these were two National Teams.
-Ike Attah for Scotland murdered England on the boards, he had 7 offensive rebounds. They had no answer for him.
-Steven Leven who I thought may go off for 30-odd in this game, shot terribly (4-17), never got it going.
-Paul James’ rotations confused me. I can only assume it is because he’s working out who he is going to play against Lithuania, but he definitely had his best lineups/players on for the minority of this game.
-Worth bearing in mind England only had 2 practices together before this game.
