Why I Have A Lot of Time For Andrew Sullivan

Andrew Sullivan has agreed a 15k paycut to stay in Newcastle

I know I’m a little late on this, but have been meaning to post something about it for a while. Just over a week or so ago, Andrew Sullivan told the Chronicle Live he would accept a £15,000 PAY CUT to stay in Newcastle.

“I want to stay at the Newcastle Eagles next season for certain, and money is not my main motivating factor by any means, I do get a bit frustrated that every summer people seem to think I’m pricing myself out of a move back to the Eagles when the truth is that is not the case. I had a chat with Paul Blake when I first came back and he said he would like me to stay in the run up to the Olympics. We had a conversation and he asked me to put a figure to him which I didn’t think was big money.”

He continued;

“We spoke again a few months later and Paul said he wasn’t going to be able to get to that number. So I came down by around £15,000 on the original offer because I want to come back so much and that’s a lot of money. I have seen stuff in the past that has said I’ve priced myself out of a move back to Newcastle, but I have come down quite a lot and if that is not commitment to the club I don’t know what is.”

In this day and age, where sports are becoming more money orientated and the team athletes play for determined by who offers the biggest contract, it is truly refreshing to see the GB Captain’s stance on things. Good for him.
