Ogo Adegboye Announces Retirement from Basketball

Former Great Britain point guard and nine-year pro Ogo Adegboye has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 30.

The 6’0″ Brixton Topcat product took to Instagram to announce the decision which he made six months ago in the midst of a season that was spent between Greece’s A1 league with Kymis and most recently in Italy with A2 side Forli.

“About 6months ago I decided to make the toughest decision i’ve ever had to make in ending my Basketball career…on my terms,” he wrote.

“In what has been one of the toughest times in my life, coming out of depression + searching for an identity outside of the game I sacrificed everything for, I found an overwhelming Peace.

“Without cueing the violin, thank you to family, friends & foes over the last 15years for molding, motivating & making me into the monster I am today… Anyone off the court can truly get it now 😂 ..really.

“If we’ve ever crossed paths, I appreciate u from the bottom of my heart 🙏🏾.”

After being developed through the Topcats programme, he headed to the US to attend famed Findlay Prep, before with JUCO Lamar Community College and then graduating on to NCAA Division 1 St Bonaventure’s University where he led the nation in minutes played during his Senior year, averaging 11.0 points and 4.0 assists per game.

A successful college career saw him turn pro in 2011, where he has played with multiple teams in Greece, Cyprus and Italy.

Adegboye was a regular in the GB backcourt since 2010, picking up 49 caps and representing his country at two major tournaments, EuroBasket 2011 and 2013. His GB career-high was a 20 point outing against Belgium in 2010.
