Archbishop Riordan High School (US) forward Emmanuel Ahamefule has been selected for the adidas NextGen Team roster for the EuroLeague Belgrade qualifying tournament, becoming the only British player named in the 12-man international squad.
The 17-year-old 2008 born, who stands 6’9″ and is currently developing at the Archbishop Riordan High School in California, will compete alongside elite young prospects from across Europe and beyond at the tournament hosted by Crvena Zvezda Belgrade from March 20-22.
Ahamefule’s selection continues a rapid rise through the youth basketball ranks and this marks the second time he’s played in the tournament.
The London-born forward represented Great Britain at the FIBA U16 European Championship Division B in 2023 while still at London Elite, before earning a place at the NBA’s global development programme at NBA Academy. He has since represented GB at the FIBA U18 European Championship Division B in 2025, stepping up an age group as one of the country’s most exciting young prospects, and then moved to the US for High School.
The NextGen Team concept brings together the best young talent from outside the EuroLeague club system, giving them a platform to compete against the academy sides of Europe’s biggest clubs. Previous qualifiers this season took place in Ulm, Abu Dhabi and Bologna, with the Belgrade tournament determining the third team to reach the NextGen EuroLeague Final Four in Athens.
