Hoopsfix Select were crowned champions of the Niners Winter Showcase after a two-day run at Surrey Sports Park across Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 December.
The four-team tournament for emerging under-21 talent saw Hoopsfix Select open their campaign with an 82–73 victory over CoLA, surviving a scare from the young side before advancing to the final. Isaac Temilola had 18 points and eight rebounds to lead Hoopsfix, ably supported by 14 from Josh Mendes and 13 from Sean Mackey.
Toby Gass was unstoppable for CoLA with 24 points and 19 rebounds, while Surrey got past London Lions’ Under-18 adidas NextGen Euroleague team 75-68 to meet Hoopsfix in the final.
Hoopsfix eturned the following day to produce a composed performance in the final, defeating Surrey 89ers Pathway 86–67 to lift the trophy.
After a competitive first half, Hoopsfix Select asserted themselves after the break, stretching the lead into double figures and managing the game effectively through the closing stages.
Isaac Temilola had 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists to lead Hoopsfix, Michael Amako 15, Jamil Ako-Mensah had 14 and Josh Mendes 12. Surrey were led by 15 from Josh Smith-White.
Elsewhere at the showcase, London Lions finished third after closing out the event with a convincing 90–68 win over CoLA in the third-place playoff.
The Niners Winter Showcase provided a valuable high-level competitive platform during the festive period, with Hoopsfix Select’s unbeaten run underlining both the depth of the group and the importance of creating meaningful playing opportunities outside of the traditional league calendar.
