A fantastic performance from Irene Oboavwoduo led Team White to a dominant 81-61 win over Team Black in the Under-19 Women’s Game at the 2025 Hoopsfix All-Star Classic.
Oboavwoduo finished with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with five rebounds on the way to earning MVP honours.
Oboavwoduo began the game on fire with an incredible 14 point opening period as Team White raced off to a 26-12 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same as Team White continued their solid all-around play and entered halftime with a 40-28 advantage.
Team Black fought back and showed some pride at the beginning of the second half as Team White’s lead dwindled to eight points in the third quarter’s opening minutes.
Unfortunately for Team Black, it didn’t take long for Siobhan Prior’s side to reestablish a double digit lead as they found themselves up by 14 once again not long after their lead was cut to single figures.
It seemed Lauren Milligan’s squad’s early run to open the third was the wake up call Team White needed, as they dominated the rest of the period to build a commanding 60-40 scoreline in their favour as they entered the fourth quarter.
At this point, Oboavwoduo had 19 points to her name with 10 minutes left to play.
Team Black however threatened to make another comeback in the game’s final quarter after they reduced the deficit to 11 with just under 6 minutes left.
Ultimately though, Oboavwoduo’s final points and a midrange jumper by Adaora Dioramma, who grabbed 14 rebounds to finish with a double double, restored a 17-point cushion for Team White with 4:30 remaining.
For Team White, the squad maintained their composure too see out the rest of the contest and finish as 20 point runaway victors. Twin sisters Elizandra and Carina Costa enjoyed a little head-to-head battle as the game reached its conclusion.
Megan Verbeeten top scored for Team Black in defeat with 11 points with GB’s Bo Frost unable to feature in the game after initial selection.
HASC alumni, and current Chelsea FC goalkeeper, Katie Cox presented Oboavwoduo with the MVP award.
