Caledonia Gladiators fell to Romanian side, CSU Oradea, 59-90, in the Basketball Champions League qualifiers at the Gloria Sports Arena, in Turkey on Tuesday evening.
The defeat meant the Gladiators’ hopes of playing in the Basketball Champions League are ended, but will continue their journey in the FIBA Europe Cup.
Caledonia competed for the second consecutive time in the BCL qualifiers following last year’s attempt against Fribourg.
The Romanian side took control of the game early in the first quarter as Caledonia struggled with their shooting. A poor start in their first competitive game of the season saw the Gladiators trailing by 25 points at half-time.
The second half of the game was identical to the first, with Oradea in complete control while Caledonia struggled offensively and Oradea sailed smoothly to victory.
Tanner Stuckman led the Gladiators with 16 points and seven rebounds from the bench on his debut. Isaiah Hill added 12 points for Caledonia as he officially started his journey with the team.
Donatas Tarolis scored a team-high 16 points to lead Oradea. Sayeed Pridgett and Kris Richard both scored 15 points for the Romanian side in the win.
