Carl Wheatle will continue his pro career in Italy after making the move to EuroCup side Reyer Venezia, the club announced.
The GB Senior international has spent the past five seasons at Pistoia – helping the club return to the first division in 2023 – and now makes a significant step up by heading to Venice.
“I am very happy to arrive at Reyer and I thank them for having wanted me so much,” said Wheatle, via the club’s release. “It represents an important opportunity for my career and for my growth. I am very excited for this new adventure, it is a challenge that comes at the right time.
“Reyer is an ambitious club, the reviews I have received are super and I believe I am in line with the club’s mentality and work culture.”
Wheatle averaged 8.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game across 33 appearances in Serie A last season as Pistoia finished in sixth place.
The 26-year-old has become a regular for the GB team – becoming captain of the side – making his major tournament debut at FIBA EuroBasket 2022, whilst Wheatle has also featured in the Hoopsfix Pro-Am.
Venezia finished fourth in the Italian top-flight with a 19-11 record last season before a semi-finals exit in the playoffs. They were announced in the lineup for the 2024-25 EuroCup season having failed to make it out of the group phase last season – coming up against London Lions twice.
