Chema Buceta has stepped down “by mutual consent” from the Great Britain Senior Women the British Basketball Federation has announced today.
It marks the end of an era for the programme, with Buceta having been in the role for eight years, leading the team to fourth place at FIBA EuroBasket 2019.
“We would like to thank Chema for his leadership and hard work over the years, and for the commitment and energy he has devoted to British Basketball,” Fiona Pimblett, Performance Lead for the British Basketball Federation, said.
“He led the GB Women to an unprecedented fourth place at FIBA EuroBasket 2019, and also came within touching distance of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
“Chema’s wisdom and knowhow have driven our improved position in the global rankings, and played an essential role in building the strong platform we now have for future success.”
The BBF added the recruitment process for a new Head Coach will begin in the New Year, with the assistant coaching roles to follow.
