Ankd and Hoopspace both edged closer to a spot in the semi-finals of the 2023 Hoopsfix Pro-Am after maintaining their unbeaten starts in Week 2 action.

There was a first win for London United as they edged out Thames Valley Cavaliers 44-43 in Pool B with Ankd moving to 2-0 by beating Vet Status 57-45. In Pool A, Hoopspace recorded their second win after defeating last year’s winners Glacier Boys 52-44, while Surrey Scorchers overcame OT Boyz 55-51 to get their campaign up and running.

Hoopspace gained control of Pool A with an important win in the battle of Week 1 winners against Glacier Boys. Victor Olarerin starred with a game-high 18 points to lead his side in the eight-point success.

There was nothing to separate the two sides in a low-scoring 8-8 first quarter before Hoopspace moved into a five-point lead at the break behind five quick points from Olarerin. Glacier Boys made a late charge with Akwasi Yeboah scoring five points in an 8-0 run to tie the game at 44-44, but Hoopspace had a big finish – responding with an 8-0 burst of their own to take the win.

The final game of the day saw Surrey Scorchers keep their semi-final hopes alive by beating OT Boyz in another close-fought encounter.

Earlier, London United held off TVC to claim their first win in Pool B as Romario Spence starred in a narrow triumph to open the Week 2 action.

Spence finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds with LeBron Roach’s layup inside the final minute proving to be the game-winner. TVC found themselves 22-12 down at half-time; trailing by as many as 16 points in the contest.

They battled back to take the lead behind 13 points from Martelle McLemore, but would fall to their second one-point loss in as many weeks.

Ankd ensured they retain control of the group with a 12-point victory against Vet Status. Bradley Kaboza and RJ Eytle-Rock both recorded 13 points and four rebounds in the win with Ade Adebayo adding eight points and eight boards.

There was a 13-point, seven-rebound effort from Joe Junior Mvuezolo in defeat for Vet Status as they drop to 1-1 ahead of a Week 3 clash with winless TVC.
