Great Britain’s Senior Women began their preparations ahead of FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 with a two-game series against Czech Republic.
Chema Buceta’s side were brushed aside in an opening 98-44 defeat on Thursday before an improved display saw them beaten 66-48 on Friday evening.
“These two games have been very important for us as the first games we’ve played in our preparations for Women’s EuroBasket,” Buceta said, via GB’s official website. “We began camp just a week ago and have come into two games against one of the best teams in Europe.
“The results were obviously not what we wanted, but the result wasn’t the focus of these games – it was to bring the team together, to see how the group performs, to help us make final decisions, and it was about much more than results.”
Sydney Wallace made a debut for GB and top scored with eight points alongside new backcourt partner Holly Winterburn in the second of two defeats. There was also a debut for Ire Ozzy-Momodu, while Savannah Wilkinson top scored with eight points in the opening game to mark a Senior return.
GB are set to play two more warm-up games against France in Lyon before heading to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana with Kiki Herbert-Harrigan and Kristine Anigwe still to join up with the squad.
