Anya McKenzie (’04-born) commits to Tarleton University

Anya McKenzie has become the latest Copleston product to secure an NCAA Division 1 scholarship after committing to Tarleton University.

The 2004-born forward originally intended to head to Central Arizona College at JUCO level alongside Millie Pearson, but has now signed to play with the Texans next season.

McKenzie was part of the Copleston side that reached the semi-finals in the WEABL – averaging 3.9 points and 5.0 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per game – whilst also producing some notable performances for the Ipswich senior team in WNBL Division 1 action.

“I am very thankful for my offer and for the opportunity to further my career in basketball,” McKenzie told Hoopsfix.

“The coaches have a very good record of developing players such as my self and sending them to play pro.

“This is an amazing offer and it was my best by far. I hope to gain the chance to play at the professional level.”

The shot-blocking forward is set to team up with fellow Brit Teresa Da Silva after the junior had a stellar season with the Texans; averaging 14.5 points per game including a career best of 31 points.

Tarleton finished the 2022-23 season with an 8-21 record including 2-16 in conference play in the WAC.
