Cheshire Phoenix and Caledonia Gladiators go head-to-head to contest the 2023 BBL Trophy Final at the Emirates Arena, on Sunday.
Familiar surroundings for both sides with Gladiators at their home venue, while the Phoenix return to the scene of their 2022 Trophy final triumph as they look to defend their title.
Caledonia started their campaign with a 97-86 victory over Newcastle Eagles as Jeremiah Bailey starred with 31 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in the opening round of the open-draw format.
The Scottish side then pulled off a surprising result by knocking out the Cup champions London Lions with a narrow 52-50 success at home with Aljami Durham top scoring with 24 points. Caledonia backed up the win by overcoming NBL D1 side Derby Trailblazers in the semi-finals – winning 65-83 behind a team-high 22 points from David Sloan.
Meanwhile, Cheshire opened with an emphatic 129-80 win at home to NBL D1 opponents Nottingham Hoods with Jamell Anderson firing in 30 points; followed by a further 29 from Maceo Jack and 27 points and 10 assists from Lloyd Daniels.
The Phoenix overcame Surrey Scorchers 74-93 on the road in the last eight as a dominant second half helped them pull away with Marcus Evans leading the effort with 25 points. Ben Thomas’ side then edged out Sheffield Sharks 82-78 to book their return to the Trophy final with a go-ahead three from Evans with 1:06 remaining proving pivotal.
