Caledonia Gladiators snap London Lions’ 52-game WBBL win streak

Caledonia Gladiators became the first team to beat London Lions in the WBBL since April, 2021, after securing a dramatic 67-68 triumph at the Copper Box on Sunday.

The Lions’ domestic streak is snapped at a record-breaking 52 games with new head coach Stella Kaltsidou on the sidelines for the first time following the recent decision to change from Mark Clark.

Chantelle Handy came up clutch with a decisive pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds and the Lions were unable to snatch victory at the buzzer to spark jubilant celebrations from the visitors.

Erin McGarrachan top scored in the win with 19 points with Handy adding 17, while Abbie Wolf posted 16 points and 12 rebounds for another double-double.

Meanwhile, Kiki Herbert-Harrigan led London with 26 points as they battled back from an 18-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth, only to fall short and drop to 9-1 in the WBBL Championship.

Caledonia improved their own record to 8-2 with Leicester Riders having the chance to go level at the top if they beat Oaklands Wolves.
