Three debutants named in GB Senior Men final 12

Three debutants will suit up for Great Britain Senior Men on Friday as Head Coach Marc Steutel has named his final 12-man squad.

19-year old Quinn Ellis, big man Aaron Menzies and London Lions’ Josh Sharma all make the squad, with Amin Adamu – another new face – being the final cut from the 13-men in training camp, as they prepare to take on Serbia on Friday and Latvia on Monday.

Veteran core Gabe Olaseni, Luke Nelson, Ben Mockford and Carl Wheatle are all in, along with Devon van Oostrum and Jamell Anderson who have both made a recent resurgence with the program, plus relatively new faces Jordan Williams, Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye and Patrick Whelan.

GB currently stand at 1-5 in the qualifiers, preparing to face Serbia at 19:00 on Friday in Newcastle and Latvia at 17:30 Monday in Latvia (watch live on Courtside 1891 – use code HOOPS-WC for 15% discount on annual and World Cup bundle passes).

“It is very exciting for everybody to have some debutants in the roster,” Head Coach Marc Steutel said.

“When we have new players in the group alongside more senior players, it is part of international basketball to go through those cycles and it is really exciting for those just starting their journey now.

“I’ve been proud of how the senior guys have tried to show these new faces the way, as it were, and I’ve been proud of how everybody has committed and competed throughout the week, and those are our biggest strengths.

“It has been a really positive week and new players and coaches getting caps are huge moments for them, but ultimately we hope to be talking about the right outcome tomorrow night above all else.”
