Chantelle Handy returns to WBBL as Caledonia Gladiators make statement signing

Caledonia Gladiators have set out their intentions ahead of a debut season in the WBBL after signing experienced GB international Chantelle Handy.

The club – formerly Lady Rocks – have taken over the Scottish franchise from Caledonia Pride and already signalled their intentions with the appointment of former Avenida head coach Miguel Angel Ortega Marco.

Handy’s arrival marks a return to the WBBL for the 35-year-old having previously spent a short time with Team Northumbria in the 2017-18 season, and will also serve as an assistant coach to the team.

“I am very excited about joining the Caledonia Gladiators family,” Handy said via release. “The club is very ambitious and are looking to grow in the upcoming years. I am very grateful to be a part of that.

“I’m looking forward to working with Miguel and learning from a coaching standpoint, but also excited about playing and bringing my experience to the team to help us develop and be competitive within the WBBL.”

Handy spent last season playing with EuroLeague side TTT Riga in Latvia and helped the club win multiple titles to add to a decorated career overseas.
