14 FIXED FOR PAU BUBBLE

Great Britain’s men will take just 14 players to Pau for this week’s clashes with France and Montenegro.

With the EuroBasket qualifiers being held in a bubble, Marc Steutel’s squad have gathered directly in the south of France.

They play their hosts on 27 November and Montenegro on 29 November, with both games tipping off at 5pm UK time.

The roster features eight players who took part in February’s window – a narrow loss in Montenegro and a historic home win over Germany – as well as six fresh faces. Three players return to the squad and three young players feature in the senior squad for the first time.

Dan Clark, Ashley Hamilton, Myles Hesson, Ben Mockford, Luke Nelson, Teddy Okereafor, Gabe Olaseni and Conner Washington all travel having been part of Steutel’ last squad earlier in the year.

Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye, Tarik Phillip and Akwasi Yeboah are all back in camp for the upcoming games, while Cameron Hildreth, Rex Pflueger and Kareem Queeley will all be aiming to make their debuts over the weekend.

Sacha Killenya Jones won’t feature in this window through injury, whilst Carl Wheatle and Ovie Soko are both unavailable.

Both games – which were originally due to take place in Newcastle – tip off at 5pm and will be available to watch live via mvp247.com.

Meanwhile British Basketball chair Maurice Watkins has stepped down from the role.

In a statement, he said: “It is with some sadness I have taken this decision, but I have my own health issues to deal with now.

“The BBF board has been told of my decision and I would like to thank those who have been supportive to me over the last two years. During that time, there has been no executive management and those volunteers have carried a heavy load because of their love of basketball.

“The BBF faces some significant challenges, not just over lack of funding. What is needed is a constructive and collaborative approach by everyone involved in elite basketball across the UK to move forward with a positive joint strategy. This is vital to secure funding for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“I had hoped to stay to overcome these issues, but that is now not possible.“
