DENG Top 50 Camp Returns for Fifth Year with New Additions

Luol Deng

The DENGTOP50 Camp will return to Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in London from 22-25 August to lead the UK’s junior ranking system for the most talented U19 year olds up and down the country.

With Hoopsfix proud to be returning for a second year as official media partner, the 2018 edition will see a number of new additions to the camp, including allowing USA-based players to compete for the first time, and a showcase exhibition featuring alumni from the event.

Other additional features include Gatorade combine testing in partnership with the NBA, video breakdowns via Krossover, one more additional Head Scout to help evaluating players, and a player performance seminar to go alongside a coaches development workshop.

“We are really excited to be delivering our fifth consecutive camp of the Top 50 ranking format,” Camp Director Steve Vear said.

“Once again, we will be adding more parts to ensure we continue to elevate elite basketball in the UK. The biggest addition is having British players who are based in the USA eligible for the camp, and we’ve done this for two reasons; one, the main goal of the camp is to provide an “exposure platform”, and it can be said that some of the USA based players also need more exposure to help them get to the next level, and two, the other main goal of the camp is to raise “competitiveness” by having the best players go up against the best players! This creates a very good environment and something we all would agree is needed more in British Basketball.

“We are also adding player and coaches workshops to help educational aspects of the game, as well as bringing back former campers to play in an Alumni Showcase Game on the last day before the Top 20 All-Star Game. It has always been important to us to continue to follow and care about our alumni so this is another way of keeping them involved with the camp family.”

Meanwhile, Luol Deng added:

“I can’t believe we are already entering our 5th Year of the Top 50 camp! This year the new additions are going to make the camp even better; I will be aiming to coach more and get involved with the seminars which I’m excited about.

“I also love coming back to London every time to see the talent as well as connect with family, friends and all the amazing staff who join us and help to elevate British Basketball.”

The camp has become renowned as the elite basketball camp for the UK, featuring the top 50 under-19s from Great Britain, putting them through four days of rigorous testing, games, and drills to produce a top-20 ranking that gets updated throughout the season.
