Mark Clark - Barking Abbey

Barking Abbey Director and former Basketball England interim CEO Mark Clark has joined the British Basketball Federation Board as the Appointed Board Director for Performance.

In his 33 years in elite basketball Mark has had the honour of coaching various national teams since 1987 and had the opportunity to lead Basketball England as interim CEO in 2015. Mark has also been a member of the Basketball England board since 2014.

Clark is thrilled about the opportunity to help and drive British Basketball forward working as part of an extremely motivated Board.

“I want to help create a professional environment that enables the best coaches and players to thrive as part of the GB programmes from under-16 to the seniors,” he said.

“We have players in the best leagues in the world, they are representing British basketball every day from Japan, through the US to Europe. We have demonstrated a clear pathway for our sport at an individual, club and Federation level. I feel I can provide a level of insight and experience that help develop that pathway in conjunction with all our partners”.

Ian Curryer, Interim Chair of the British Basketball Federation added:

“Mark’s appointment will embody a high-performance culture in the Great Britain squads. With 25% of the 2015 Great Britain Senior Men’s Team and the 2016 Senior Women’s Teams having attended Barking Abbey, Mark will be able to identify and articulate what it takes to win for our teams and provide strategic guidance to the British Basketball Federation Board.”
