Cheshire Phoenix have dismissed head coach Colin O’Reilly, just four months into his fourth season in charge.
The BBL strugglers are understood to have activated a break clause in the Irishman’s contract to end his tenure with immediate effect, leaving the club to look for its eighth coach in seven seasons.
O’Reilly arrived in the summer fresh from winning the Irish League title with UCC Demons while coaching Ireland and the country’s entry in the FIBA Europe League but he won only four of his initial 15 games at the helm.
“Things haven’t worked out as we had hoped and we would like to thank Colin for his hard work and commitment to the Club during the past 6 months,” chairman Mike Burton said. “Everybody at Cheshire Phoenix wishes him the very best going forward with his career.â€
It is expected a replacement will be found in the New Year with John Lavery among the favourites to return for what would be a third spell on the sidelines.
