Aside from Stefan Gill’s heroics this weekend in NBL Division 1 action, there was also drama in Division 2 as Derbyshire Arrows got a buzzer beating win over Ipswich, courtesy of Johnny Broodie.
It was real hearbreak for Ipswich, after Luke Mascall-Wright had scored 8 straight to put them up 77-75 in the final moments. Tom Sadler, an 85% free throw shooter, missed two free throws with 4 seconds left that would have sealed the game, setting up Broodie’s heroics.
Derbyshire’s Broodie corralled the rebound and dribbled the length of the court, appearing to potentially get away with three steps (?!), before firing a running three pointer up that banked in at the buzzer to give the Arrows a 77-78 win.
The Arrows remain unbeaten in the league with a 2 – 0 record having edged out Doncaster Danum Eagles in their opening game of the season.
Joseph Baugh had 21 to lead Arrows, with Broodie finishing with 9.
