LA Lakers Officially Announce Luol Deng Signing

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially announced the signing of Luol Deng as one of their new arrivals in the Free Agency period.

Deng – a two-time NBA All-Star and Great Britain Olympian – agreed a four-year, $72 million deal to join the Lakers, as first reported by The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

The 31-year-old spent the last two seasons at Miami Heat and averaged 13.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game during the 2015-16 campaign.

“Luol is a versatile defender as well as offensively talented and is a high character individual who will be invaluable mentoring our young players on the court and in the locker room,” said Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak, in the official release.

The Lakers also announced the re-signing of Jordan Clarkson along with the addition of rookie Croatian centre Ivica Zubica, while Jose Calderon was acquired via trade.

Deng made his NBA debut 12 years ago having been the 7th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and next season will mark his 13th in the league.
