Jo Leedham has picked up a winners medal from the EuroCup, leading Bourges to the trophy.
The Great Britain international had 14 points and 12 rebounds as the French champions edged out domestic rivals Lille 54-53 in the second leg of the final.
Lille closed the contest with a 14-2 run to produce a dramatic climax but Camille Aubert’s last-second attempt to hit a victorious three-pointer fell instead into the hands of the Cheshire-born guard as Bourges triumphed 105-94 on aggregate, leaving Leedham in a select group of Britons to lift a European prize.
“This definitely makes up for our disappointing EuroLeague Women season and it’s great to have the honour of being the first British player to win a competition like EuroCup Women,†enthused Leedham after the final buzzer as she proudly clutched her winners medal.
“It’s always good to have British players winning things and I am glad that people know I am out here in France competing and fighting to find success.
“It’s also nice to have this medal after what the GB team achieved with our comeback win against Montenegro – it gives that feeling of confidence heading into our big EuroBasket Women qualifiers in November.â€
French centre Ana Filip had 16 points and 15 boards for the champions who won the competition for the first time since 1995.
