GB HANDED KIND EURO DRAW

Great Britain’s men will face Hungary, Macedonia and Luxembourg in this summer’s qualifiers for EuroBasket 2017.

Joe Prunty’s side, which failed to reach last summer’s finals, will visit the Hungarians in their opener on 31 August before three successive home ties with Macedonia (3 Sept), Luxembourg (7 Sept) and Hungary (10 Sept) at yet to be determined venues.

They will finish up with trips to Macedonia (14 Sept) and Luxembourg (17 Sept).

The first placed teams in each group will qualify for the Finals which will be co-hosted by Turkey, Romania, Israel and Finland next year, with the four best second-placed teams also going through.

The 13 sides headed either directly to the Olympic Games or the Rio 2016 qualifying tournaments, or acting as co-hosts, have been granted automatic spots at EuroBasket 2017.

GB’s Under-20s and the home nation youth teams also learned their summer fates on Friday with the U20 Men in an initial pool with Greece, Netherlands, Ireland, Albania and Kosovo.

It has been confirmed senior women’s coach Jose Maria Buceta will double up at the helm of the U20s whose first round foes in Podgorica will be Lithuania and Israel.
