Vanessa Ellis Confirmed as GB Senior Women Assistant

Vanessa Ellis will continue in her role as Assistant Coach for Great Britain Senior Women and work alongside newly appointed Head Coach, Jose Maria Buceta.

Having taken Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters to the WBBL (Women’s British Basketball League) treble in 2014-15 prior to fulfilling her role as GB Assistant Coach at EuroBasket Women 2015, Ellis is currently embarking on the start of a new WBBL campaign with her club team.

Coach Buceta is delighted to have ensured Ellis remains on board and has already been working on plans with his coaching colleague at the WBBL opening weekend in Loughborough.

He said, “Vanessa will be the first Assistant Coach, working very closely with me and having big responsibilities in planning, decision making and on what happens on the court.

“I am very happy to have her still involved with the team, since she has a lot of experience with the players and this will of course be of great value to us.”

The duo will also be joined by Susana Garcia Senra, a former international player with Spain and someone who brings considerable international coaching experience.

“She is highly specialised in scouting and analysing and so this will be her main role as the second Assistant Coach,” explained Buceta.

“As a Head Coach, she won the U20 European Championship Women with Spain and as an Assistant Coach with the Senior Women, she has contributed to EuroBasket Women and FIBA Women’s World Championship medals.”

Great Britain will start their qualification bid for EuroBasket Women 2017 next month when they travel to Montenegro on Saturday 21 November.

They then face Italy at the Amaechi Centre in Manchester on Wednesday 25 November in the first of three qualifying windows during the next 12 months, as they look to seal a fabulous fourth straight ticket to EuroBasket Women Final Round.
