UMass Take Down London Lions in Exhibition

University of Massachusetts (UMass) got a 107-88 victory over the London Lions in an exhbition on Saturday at the Copper Box Arena in East London.

Donte Clark led four double-digits scorers with 25 points for the Minutemen, who beat a short-handed Lions squad who have had just one practice together.

Kai Williams led London with 21 points, captain Joe Ikhinmwin had 18, while Nick Lewis added 16 in front of a sparse crowd in the Olympic Park.

“I’m happy with what I saw,” said Lions Head Coach Nigel Lloyd.

“The guys here played well and fought hard against a team that played flat out. I was happy we scored 88 points after one practice and Nick arriving this morning and more big guns to come.”

Lions were without new signings Brian Voelkel (squad has made the Finals in Australia),Demond Watt and Jaron Lane (awaiting visas), or Jamal Williams (strained calf) and Allie Fullah (hamstring).

The Lions will likely play in Belgium as part of pre-season and then open up on the road in Plymouth on the 19th of September before the first home game on the 25th against Leeds Force.

UMass eclipsed triple digits in the scoring column for the third consecutive contest in as many victories during their week-long trip through Paris and London. UMass previously defeated French professional team, AMW All-Stars, 123-70 on Tuesday, Aug. 18, before a 115-65 triumph over the All-Stars the next evening.
