The ninth annual FamFest will take place on Saturday 1st August, as grassroots coaching and mentoring charity Hoops Legacy International celebrates its twentieth year in the community.
FamFest – short for Family Festival – incorporates a blend of professional basketball action and live music/entertainment. It’s unique ‘old school versus new school’ theme pits four teams against one another in an all-star game format, and against the backdrop of old school tunes spun by DJ Fitz (formerly of BBC 1xtra).
Consciously aimed at a family audience, FamFest incorporates a mix of on and off court competitions, with prizes donated by Converse. Fans will be encouraged to participate in a variety of games and challenges, from blindfolded half-court heaves to an unscripted lip-sync battle.
This year’s event is hosted by Simon Hosannah, host of the NBA’s UK events, and doors open at 1pm at Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton, South East London (SM5 2TG).
The teams are brimming with talent, from rising stars such as Jules Dang-Akodo and Tyrell Isaacs, to pro players such as Paul Guede, Martelle Mclemore, Olu Babalola and Tayo Ogedengbe, and seasoned veterans such as Commonwealth Bronze Medalists Ronnie Baker, Michael Martin, Julius Joseph and Germayne Forbes. The first game of the day features the U21s vs. U31s at 2pm, followed by the U41s vs. Legends at 4pm.
Tickets cost just £5 for adults, £4 for children under 16 and £15 for a family of four* and are available on the door from 1pm. Hot food will be available to buy courtside. For more information, or to reserve tickets in advance, please call 0333 011 7571.
