Martyn Gayle Re-Signs with Cheshire Phoenix

Cheshire Phoenix have made Martyn Gayle their first signing of the summer after agreeing a new deal with the Birmingham-born guard.

Gayle joined Manchester Giants in the early stages of last season before leaving the club and signing for Cheshire Phoenix not long after, in February.

The 25-year-old played in 17 league games for the club and averaged 5.9 points per game from the bench with an impressive shooting percentage of 43.2 from beyond the arc.

Gayle is the second player confirmed on returning Head Coach John Lavery’s roster with captain David Aliu also back for another season having signed a two-year deal last summer.

“I’m really pleased to have Martyn on board with us again this year,” said Lavery, via the Cheshire Chronicle.

“He’s a fantastic team mate and a great guy on and off the floor. He was well received by his team mates and the incredible fans at the Phoenix.

“I am really looking forward to working with Martyn for what should be a great year for the Phoenix moving into our new arena.”

Gayle began his BBL career with local team Birmingham Knights in the 2012-13 season and has also represented England at senior international level.
