London big man Légénd Robertin has verbally committed to NCAA Division 1 school Clemson University for the 2015-16 season.
The 7’0″ late bloomer (pictured above, number 00) is in his first year at Chipola College, a JUCO powerhouse in Florida, having attended Believe Prep Academy in Rock Hill, SC, beforehand.
Ranked one of the top JUCO big men in the class of 2015, Legend didn’t start playing until 16 years old, playing for Harris Academy Beckenham, Barking Abbey and Barking & Dagenham Thunder before heading overseas.
“He’s a legit seven-foot, 250 pounds with four percent body fat,” Chipola Coach Patrick Blake said to Palmetto Sports.
“He really runs the floor and is extremely athletic. His size and length make him an instant impact player for us on both ends of the floor. It’s mostly offensive rebounds, catching dump offs and scoring the ball in space. He’s really good in individuals as far as footwork and post moves but with his lack of basketball experience he’s still trying to figure out how to translate that into a real game.”
He will have three years of eligibility left when he joins the Tigers, who compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
“Coach Riley, the newest assistant for Clemson, did a great job of forming a relationship,” Blake added. “Coach Brownell came down as well to visit with Legend and they just hit it off right away. There were a lot of schools showing interest from Pittsburgh to Oklahoma State to Alabama to Tennessee. He had a long list of schools.”
Robertin picked Clemson over Memphis, Tennessee, Florida State, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, Alabama, South Carolina, Arkansas, West Virginia amongst others.
