England U18s to Play for Ninth After Loss to Sweden

Jules Dang Akodo Albert Schweitzer TournamentEngland Under-18s can finish no higher than ninth in the Albert Schweitzer Tournament after falling 71-56 to Sweden on Monday afternoon.

With the winner of the match-up advancing to the second round and the loser not, it was all to play for but England, already without Josh Steel, were dealt an early blow when big man Aaron Menzies took a shot to the face in the first 30 seconds and spent the rest of the game on the bench.

Sweden, led by top 1996 born European prospect Ludvig Hakansson – took control of the game in the middle of the first quarter and with Hakansson seemingly unable to miss, scoring 19 of his 24 points, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing 5 assists in the first half, England were unable to get back in the game.

Jules Dang Akodo led England with 11 points and Pharroh Gordon joined him as the only other player in double figures with 10. Theo Oghide and Deane Williams added 8 each.

Box score.
