England Under-18s overcame a furious fourth quarter rally from Argentina to win their opening game of the Albert Schweitzer Tournament in Germany, 68-63.
Head Coach Karl Brown’s side were in firm control of the second and third periods, but a 21-7 run in the fourth quarter saw Argentina reduce the lead to three in the final minute. However, England were able to hold their nerve down stretch, knocking down crucial free throws to seal the win.
Manchester Magic’s Pharroh Gordon had 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead England, whilst Jules Dang Akodo had 18 points, 6 rebounds 4 assists. Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye finished with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists as well as a pair of free throws in the final 14 seconds to give England the cushion they needed.
England will look to build on this when they face Serbia on Sunday (6pm local) and then Sweden on Monday (2pm local) to advance out of the group stages.
