Alex Dorr Dominates as Derby Claim EBL Division 2 Playoff Crown

In a firey game between the two best sides in EBL Division 2, Alex Dorr dominated from the off on his way to an MVP performance of 19 points and 20 rebounds to lead Derby to a 74-57 win over Ipswich in the Division 2 Playoff Final at the Amaechi Basketball Centre in Manchester on Sunday morning.

Derby led from the start of the second quarter and never looked likely to give up their lead. Their bigs managed to contain Leigh Greenan to an extent, despite his 12 point, 17 rebound double double, while Tom Sadler was neutralised into 2-12 shooting.

Derby Captain Sam O’Shea joined Dorr with a double-double of his own, getting 17 points and 10 rebounds.

“We’re delighted to win the playoffs aswell as the league to cap off the season.” Said Derby Head Coach James Maudsley speaking to Hoopsfix.

“With regards to next year, I hope we’ve got enough to go up, I think we’ve proved that by winning the league and hopefully we can add some pieces too.

“Alex has had a great season for us. He’s here on a one year programme but we’d love to keep him around so we’re looking into how we can make that a workable option.”

Thus ends a league and playoff double winning season for the Trailblazers who look forward to returning to life in EBL Division 1 next season.

Box score.
